My name is Jason Huddleston. I'm 42 years old and just last year decided to leave my job of 12 years as an Aerospace Engineering Technician contractor with NASA. Before that I worked as a Defense Contractor for a large corporation.
I've had a diverse set of jobs in my life and prefer it that way. I come from a long line of "Jack-of-All-Trades" or "JOATS' as some would call us.
I am proud to be a JOAT and going out on my own and starting my own business just seemed like the next big challenge in my life. With the help of my Father-in-Law who owns Discovery Enterprises Corporation, I've taken the things I enjoy doing:
"helping people, solving problems and playing with gadgets", and turned them into a family business.
In the late 80's, during Madison Alabama's big expansion I worked for a lumber company and actually helped build a few houses for friends and co-workers. I learned so much from the local builders and wanted to start a business to help those who had helped me. Originally I was going to just aid the homebuilders in the area by helping them deter theft on their jobsites with remote video surveillance and alarm systems. That soon changed and began to start helping people design their own security systems and video recording systems. I still try to help the builders since copper theft began to increase, again.
I've spent the last 5 years testing all kinds of solar equipment, security systems, video cameras, home automation, safes, thumbprint readers, card readers and tons of other cool gadgets not really related to anything. My house looks like "Tim the Toolman" has gone crazy. Its the only way to know what holds up and what is junk. I've litterally have spent thousands on parts just to see how they can improve our lives.
Working for NASA was the best time for me. I made lots of long time friends, learned so much and they let me do my thing as long as it didn't interfere with our tests. I helped upgrade their video systems, video editors, communications systems and replaced all the old analog recorders (vhs) with digital hard drive recorders. All good things must come to an end and I had an opportunity to go off on my own.
I'm really excited about solar and alternative energies. Our home is on a small farm and I have already begun converting over to solar. Eventually we will go completely off-grid and also decrease our carbon footprint.
My work truck is a 1 ton Dodge Dually 6 cyl. Cummins Diesel that I have run off of Bio-diesel from time to time. My tractor has also run off Bio-diesel with no problems, yet. Of course, I'm really proud of my Solar Mobile Workshop which you can see anytime you want.
